The training should be completed by all Health and Social Care professionals. Everyone who works in a CQC registered sector, both public and private, are required to complete the training.
Should I do Tier 1 or Tier 2?
The level for the training will depend on your role and should be agreed within your organization. The majority of staff will complete the Tier 2 1-day training.
Tier 1 is for people who are in roles where they are not directly involved in the provision of care yet may interact with some individuals who have a learning disability or an autistic person

No, either Tier 1 or Tier 2 need to be completed based on your current role
How many delegates can be in a session?

Larger groups can be considered, although the implementation of these sessions has additional criteria. Larger groups can impact the experience of the Co-trainer and the quality of the session for the delegates
What is the normal timing for the session?
Tier 1 webinar is a 1-hour online session
Tier 2 is delivered in two parts, usually in one day. Typical timings for the day would be 09:30 – 16:30, with each section lasting 3-3.5 hours

What happens if a Co-trainer is not able to deliver the session?
The session must be delivered as a trio, with a Facilitator, Learning Disability Co-trainer and an Autism Co-trainer
If a Co-trainer is not able to attend, the session cannot be delivered. We would always aim to have a back-up to avoid cancellations
Can I do the training two parts? And can I do the Autism part first?
The Tier 2 can be delivered in two sections and on different days. It would be expected for the time between sections to be short, namely a few days
The Learning Disability section must be delivered before the Autism section, so you cannot complete the Autism section first
Why is it called mandatory training?
The Health and Care Act 2022 states ‘Regulations under this section must require service providers to ensure that each person working for the purpose of the regulated activities carried on by them receives training on learning disability and autism which is appropriate to the person’s role’
As the training is stated in legislation it is mandatory. The Code of Practice details what the training must include, including Co-production and Co-delivery as integral features of the training
